Two people were displaced by an unattended kitchen fire in the 2100 block of Second Avenue on the west side of Windsor on Wednesday.

Windsor firefighters were called to the residence around 8:15 p.m. after smoke was seen coming from the home.

Officials said a neighbour spotted the smoke, forced open the front door of the home and found flames on the stove.

Crews managed to bring the blaze under control by 9:50 p.m. Investigators determined the fire was caused by chicken grease left unattended on the stove.

No injuries were reported. Two people have been displaced.

Early estimates on the Second Avenue fire placed the damage around $100,000.

Fire officials advise anyone cooking or using kitchen appliances to remain in the room while those appliances are in use.

The incident occurred just weeks after an unattended cooking fire in a Marentette Avenue multi-residential building displaced 18 people and caused an estimated $200,000 in damage.
