National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has said that terrorist attacks and other security threats have dropped significantly across Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

Speaking at a two-day interactive session on government-citizens engagement organised by the Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation at Arewa House in Kaduna, Ribadu said the security situation in all six geopolitical zones has seen marked improvement since Tinubu took office.

“In the past, virtually all regions of Nigeria were grappling with serious security problems,” Ribadu noted. “Today, we are seeing significant progress due to the coordinated and unified approach adopted by the security agencies, as directed by President Tinubu from his first day in office.”

In the South-East, Ribadu explained that the violent secessionist campaign by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been largely contained through both kinetic and non-kinetic means, resulting in a notable reduction in violence and unrest.

He also pointed to a decline in clashes between herders and farmers in the North-Central region. “For instance, official reports from the Benue State government show a decline in fatalities compared to the previous administration,” he said.

In the North-West, Ribadu reported that many bandit leaders have been neutralised and peace is gradually returning. “So far, 11,259 hostages have been rescued in operations across the North-West as of May,” he added.

Citing data from previous years, Ribadu said 1,192 people were killed and 3,348 kidnapped in Kaduna State alone under the last administration, while over 5,000 lives were lost in Benue State during the same period.

He credited the current gains to improved collaboration among security agencies and clear directives from the presidency on a unified strategy.

Ribadu also praised Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for implementing non-kinetic measures to combat insecurity. “The governor’s initiative has contributed to the relative peace now being enjoyed in Kaduna,” he said.
