Viswash Kumar Ramesh was the only person who survived the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171, which was heading to London and crashed in Ahmedabad on Thursday. There were 242 people on board the plane, but sadly, he was the only one who made it out alive.
According to the police, Viswash was sitting close to an emergency exit when the crash happened. This allowed him to act quickly and escape by jumping out of the aircraft. His fast thinking and the fact that he was near the exit likely helped save his life.
Unfortunately, his older brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, who was also on the same flight, did not survive the crash. Their names were both listed on the official passenger list. The two brothers had been visiting family in India and were on their way back to the United Kingdom, where they lived.
While recovering in the hospital, Viswash spoke briefly to Indian media. The 40-year-old said he is a British citizen and had been traveling with his brother after spending time with relatives. The news of the crash and the loss of so many lives, including his own brother, has deeply affected him and his family.
A video shared by local media showed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting Viswash in the hospital in Ahmedabad to offer support and express his condolences. The Prime Minister also met with rescue workers and officials to thank them for their efforts during the emergency response.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated by authorities. The incident has shocked people across India and around the world, and many are mourning the lives lost in this heartbreaking accident.
