THE BODY of a man found in Cumuto on Monday which was believed to be that of missing retired fireman, Anslym Alonzo was confirmed this morning as him.
He had been shot twice and was found with his hands tied behind his back.
Investigators from the Region Two Homicide Bureau confirmed this after Alonzo’s body had been briefly examined and positively identified at the Forensic Science Centre, Federation Park.
Several of Alonzo’s relative were at the centre this morning but none wanted to speak.
According to relatives who had spoken to the Express over the weekend, the 63-year-old was last seen on Friday evening (October 31) driving his burgundy-coloured Nissan Note Aura along the Eastern Main Road around 6 p.m.
On Saturday, Alonzo’s daughter said that around 2 p.m. the evening before, he left the Ojoe Road, Sangre Grande, home he shares with his wife and two children, and headed to his workshop located at Coalmine, Sangre Grande.
He told them that he would be staying there for a few hours, and he was expected to return to take his wife to the supermarket following which he would lend his car to one of his daughters.
A relative also told the Express that Alonzo had arrived and was carrying out work at his shop as the sounds of tools were heard by people who live nearby. However, around 6 p.m. one of the residents who was passing near the workshop noticed its main door open and some of Alonzo’s tools outside, the relative said.
The man then picked up the items, placed them into the workshop and then closed the door.
According to the relative, the only time Alonzo was seen after that was when he was spotted driving along the Eastern Main Road.
