Pedro Acosta is considering his future at KTM as he grows impatient in his quest to become a MotoGP world champion.
Since stepping up to the premier class in 2024, the Spaniard has showcased his incredible talent. Finishing sixth in his debut season with KTM Tech3, he moved up to the factory team in 2025 and improved further.
Five Grand Prix podiums and 12 overall in the second half of the season gave Acosta a fourth-place finish in the championship. However, he is still not satisfied.
The 21-year-old is one of four riders yet to win a race in MotoGP, and this is playing on his mind as his contract expires with KTM in 2026.
KTM have ‘not stopped’ sending messages of ‘unconditional affection’ to Pedro Acosta
Acosta has proven himself to be KTM’s top rider, having never been outqualified by a teammate in MotoGP. He whitewashed Brad Binder in 2025, beating him 22-0 in the qualifying battle and finished with almost double his points.
His importance to KTM is significant and the team want to keep him on board. But the manufacturer are not giving Acosta the bike he needs to win races, and ultimately the championship.
The RC16 is a difficult machine to handle, and KTM’s desperate financial crisis and uncertain future are giving Acosta more reason to consider his future. But the Austrian outfit are doing everything in their power to retain him.
A report from Motorsport.com states that KTM have ‘not stopped sending him messages of unconditional affection’ to Acosta. They are desperate to keep him on their bike beyond 2026.

Pedro Acosta wants to join Ducati
KTM simply must provide Acosta with a bike that can win races in 2026. At the moment, they do not have the tools that a manufacturer like Ducati can offer.
The Spaniard knows this too, after he tried to break his KTM contract and join VR46 in 2026. Dorna blocked the move from happening, but the interest from Valentino Rossi’s team remains.
VR46 say they will do everything to sign Acosta, with Honda also being interested in the 21-year-old. But the feeling is that he would prefer to be riding, more specifically, a red one.
The factory Ducati team are considering Acosta as an option for 2027 if Pecco Bagnaia fails to perform next season. A partnership with Marc Marquez could be on the cards if KTM cannot convince him to stay.
