JOHANNESBURG – Six people have died in a fire at the Marikana Informal Settlement in Ekurhuleni.

The blaze destroyed a home housing seven family members – trapping them inside as they were sleeping.

A 7-year-old girl escaped with critical burn wounds.

Emergency services arrived at the scene just after 3am this morning to find the four-roomed shack engulfed by flames.

Six family members were declared dead on the scene.

It’s not known what caused the fire.
